Recalibration
This month Saturn begins it’s retrograde, offering an opportunity to strategize. This is in preparation for the last big Uranus/Saturn square in September/October. Saturn is also squaring Mercury as both planets are stationing and changing direction. Meanwhile, the benefic Venus will be in her own sign of Taurus all month. She is beckoning us to refine our animal natures, and focus on savoring life’s more beautiful offerings. Also, we have June’s Summer Solstice when we can pay homage to the “Sun-God”.
Let’s begin with the Saturn retrograde. The dates of this event are June 4th – October 23rd. Check to see where 18-28 degrees of Aquarius is in your birth chart so that you can know where this retrograde Saturn is happening for you. Over the coming months, this is a good time to recalibrate and reevaluate that specific house of your birth chart and area of your life. In so doing, you are laying the groundwork and leveraging Saturnian wisdom to prepare for the shakiness of September/October when the Saturn/Uranus square makes its final strong hit.
That is looking at a longer 4.5 month event, but more specific to this month, Mercury is heavily in the mix as it’s squaring Saturn. In the first few days of June, Mercury is stationed as it’s ending its retrograde period, and Saturn is stationing as it begins it’s retrograde period. I could take this in a lot of different directions, but personalizing it with a core evolutionary potential – this month is about our intelligence and evolving view of the world and our place in it (Mercury), and its collision through the stationed square with hard, cold reality (Saturn).
As usual, reality will win, but we can win too if we are willing to let go of some of our preconceived notions of what reality is and our favorite pet opinions. Both Mercury and Saturn are in fixed signs (Taurus/Aquarius), and one way these can manifest as is a stubborn refusal to adapt. Mercury – the planet of perception – wants to take another step closer to the truth, but it’s challenging since this is a square. This will likely manifest as a refutation of some erroneous assumptions, if we can allow our “fixed energy” to be more porous and malleable now. Something old and wise inside of us (Saturn) is eager to advance this process.
On another level, our intelligence (Mercury), could use some Saturian diligence by embarking on some serious study. Sinking our teeth into a challenging learning project is another classic way these planets can manifest. Also, toughening our mental self-discipline through mind training. Strengthening our mental abilities of concentration and observation is a great way to work this month. Quieting the mind for an intended period of time can be hard work, and so can training ourselves to just observe reality with as much clarity as we can muster. However we decide to work with Saturn/Mercury this month, the work will likely be quite difficult, because that’s just the nature of Saturn.
The first half of the month will likely feel a bit sluggish because of the stations, but the energy will pick up mid June once Mercury reenters Gemini. Sluggish as the start may be, I imagine it will feel somewhat peaceful. The other big event of the month is Venus being in her own sign of Taurus. This is a beautiful energy. The Goddess of Peace energy is strong this month, and we can take a serenity bath by doing all things Taurus. Think about how you feel as you cuddle up under the blanket with someone you love dearly. Or, how you satiated you feel on multiple levels after finishing a delicious meal with those you care about. Or, imagine you are listening and enraptured by your favorite song, in that moment you become the silence that can hear – utterly in the present moment as you move those hips. This is the realm of Venus in Taurus. The evolutionary intent is to cultivate more peace in your soul – Taurus style.
On June 21st we have the Summer Solstice. It’s the longest day of the year, and we are closest to the Sun. I love this event because it’s reminds me about a source of life here on earth. It keeps us warm in the deep freeze of space. The Sun is revered in many cultures throughout history. It represents fire, life force, vitality, and our guiding light. Also, this is a good opportunity to contemplate our own Sun sign in our birth chart, and do a little check-in to see if we feel aligned with our core values and trajectory. If we have a strong response to our Sun sign and house, we feel full of energy, a sense that we are on the right path, and fully sane to face whatever comes our way along our chosen directions.
These are the core evolutionary intentions, with the goal always – to expand our consciousness.
